Honors Chemistry- Week of 9/10

Posted on September 10, 2012

Due to my absence on Friday, the flame test lab will be postponed until Tuesday, 9/11. On Monday, we will practice solving problems using the speed of light equation and take notes on energy and electrons and the energy equation. You need to be able to solve both of these equations in order to analyze the lab on Tuesday. The rest of the week will follow along in your agenda in your packet. If you want to look at it on-line- go to last week’s blog and click on the assignment sheets for honors chemistry.

Wednesday- We will begin an in-depth excursion in to the Periodic Table and discover what an amazing tool it really is!

Thursday – We will look at properties of elements on the table and how they tend to occur in repeating patterns.

Thursday – We will review for your quiz on atomic theory and the periodic table.

Open House will be on Thursday, 9/20 at 6:30pm. Hope to see you there!

Chemistry – Week of 9/10

Hello All,

Due to my Friday absence last week, we are a little behind, but not much!

On Monday we will be learning about electron configurations and practice writing them.

Tuesday- We will learn how electrons can give off light and how to identify an element from the color of the light.

Wednesday- We will do the Flame Test lab. Be prepared and wear appropriate shoes and clothes!

Thursday – We will begin an in-depth study of the Periodic Table and learn what an amazing tool it really is. And, no, contrary to popular belief, you will not have to memorize the table- just know how to use it!

Please review your agenda in your packet to see what’s happening next! Not sure where your packet is at the moment? Then skip back to last week’s blog entry and click on the on-level assignment sheet. The agenda’s right there!

Open House will be on Thursday, 9/20 at 6:30pm. Hope to see you there!

Hello and Welcome to Chemistry/Honors Chemistry!

This year will be full of interesting and challenging activities and lessons! Chemistry is a cumulative course, which means that what you learn on day 1 will be built upon each and every class until day 180! In other words, you can’t take the test and then forget about it. There are several things you will need for class every day- a binder/folder, notebook paper, a scientific calculator and a pencil or pen. You will not be required to bring your textbook everyday but there are days where you will need it. Don’t worry, I will let you know in advance when you need to bring it from home.

On this blog, you can find out what we are doing every week, which is especially useful when you are absent. You can also find a copy of the syllabus in case you misplace your hard copy. Notes will be posted to the blog, however, since we do lots of examples, it is in your BEST INTEREST to also take notes in class. You can also find some interesting news stories/articles about chemistry and science in general on here as well.

I’ve been hacked!!!

Well, ladies and gentleman, my website was hacked today so I needed to start over. Luckily, I can replace everything by the end of the week. By 4th period tomorrow, everything from this current unit will be replaced.
